New Year's Eve: Anthro Eastern Dragon DTF

New Year's Eve was in full swing. Fireworks were being launched, resolutions were being made (only to be broken a week later), and all sorts of goings-on were happening. Including one particular going-on in a small, dreary suburb.

Rachel Chandler was not happy. She was having a great time partying with her friends, when her brother Walter just HAD to rat her out to her dad. Now, she was grounded, locked in her room. Rachel scowled at the white-painted walls and ceiling with rancor, atop her fluffy bed. Why did Walt have to be such a joykiller? The little rat.

Meanwhile, Walter wasn't having the most pleasant time himself. He'd been in a funk all day, and seeing Rachel destroying the house with her insane compadres had just worsened his mood. He HAD to tell their father anyway- if the party hadn't been stopped, Rachel might've caused a serious disaster, or gotten hooked on something... or SOMETHING. He wanted to apologize for doing it, but if he even got close to Rachel's door, she'd throw something at him. What a way to treat your own twin brother, he thought.

~~~
"I don't know, Richard..." their mother said, talking to their father in the living room. Her long fingers nervously tapped the arm of the wooden rocking chair she was seated upon. "Are you sure? It could scare them."
"Nonsense, Ana," Richard countered. "They're brave kids. Besides, they'll have to find out sooner or later. Or else their grandparents will kill me."
Ana gulped. "...if you say so.... but I still have doubts." She picked up two boxes on the little table between the two, and went upstairs.
~~~

Rachel groaned when she heard her mom knock on the door. "GO AWAY!" she thundered. However, her mother just unlocked the door with a key and entered. Rachel sent the elder woman a glance of the utmost hate. "What do you want?" the teenage girl muttered, voice poisonously bitter. Ana gave her daughter a sympathetic smile.

"I wanted to give you this," she said. Rachel watched Ana's every movement as the mother laid a box on the daughter's nightstand. "Open it at midnight, and you'll see something special happen."

"Like?" Rachel asked, incredulous.

"You'll have to wait and see." Ana left the room. Rachel glowered at her retreating back, before she turned to the box. It was about the size of an average jewelery box, and when Rachel shook it, no sound came from inside. Just what could this thing be?

~~~
Walter heard his mother knock on the door. "Come in," he said sullenly. Ana entered, holding a box. "What's up, Mom?"
The mother patted her son on the head gently. "I have a New Year's gift for you. Here." She handed Walter the box. He inspected it from all angles. It was tiny, about the size of a jewelery box. Did it contain a ring? Maybe an ear piercing? But he didn't wear piercings.
"What's it for?" Walter asked doubtfully, narrowing his blue eyes. Ana just patted him on the head again.
"You'll see. Open it at midnight for a surprise." With these cryptic words, Ana left. Walter stayed behind, still contemplating the mysterious gift.
~~~

The hours passed. Rachel was ungrounded for good behavior, and dinner was had by the four. When the topic of the gifts Walter and Rachel had recieved was brought up, Richard and Ana didn't say much. Something about Walter and Rachel's grandparents was all they mentioned. This only left the twins even more baffled, and they exchanged a glance. Dinner's end was followed swiftly by watching movies and other family-oriented activities, in an attempt to ring in the new year.

Eventually, with the twins in their respective rooms, midnight hit- the exact time when Walter and Rachel's presents were meant to be opened. Neither knew what it was, but it was going to be a total life-changer.

Rachel's hand wavered over her box.

Walter grabbed hold of the lid.

And at the same time, both presents were opened... releasing two bright flashes. The twins looked away, temporarily blinded. And then, it began.

~~~
Walter noticed something odd in the mirror on his wall. Was his hair longer? And why was it golden? Weird... he'd always had a sort of boring brown shade for a hair color. Now, it wasn't even blond. It was a rich, bright gold color.
"What the- YOW!" Walter winced, his eyes screwed up in pain. His feet! They were on fire! Or at least it FELT like fire, because it couldn't POSSIBLY be that his feet were turning into paws... could it?
~~~

As the red scales began to cover her body, Rachel watched her clothes be magically shredded to pieces, allowing her to see her new tail grow out.

"What's happening?" she said as her hands become more claw-like, frightening her.

~~~
As his tail grew out more, Walter felt his face push out into a draconic snout, whiskers growing out of it, with horns now on the top of his head. Walter now stood as a dragon... sort of. He wasn't on all fours. He was standing on two legs, not unlike that Discord character from that show his friend Jason watched, and managed to retain a mostly-human body shape. He kind of resembled a Chinese-style dragon.
~~~

Rachel also stood as a humanoid dragon. Nervously, she looked around, not sure of how to react.

"What the hell is this!?" she muttered to herself. "Why am I a dragon?"

Rachel quickly went to find Walter, hoping he could help her.

~~~
When Walter heard a knock at the door, he tried to hide, afraid his parents or sister would see him. Imagine his surprise when Rachel, also a dragon, came in and saw him!
"...Walt?" she asked.
"Rachel? What happened to you?" Walter replied. His sister looked uncomfortable.
"I- I dunno... I opened that gift Mom gave me, and now... well, I'm a dragon..." she mumbled. "You, too, from the looks of it."
"Yeah." Walter came over to Rachel and hugged her, trying to console his sister. "Why would Mom and Dad do this to us?"
Suddenly, the two of them heard another knock at the door, making them both jump.
"Please... Don't come in..." Walter said. He gulped. And thanks to luck not being on Walter and Rachel's side, the door opened, and Ana and Richard entered the room.
"So, the gifts worked," Richard said. "Good. Your grandfather would breathe fire in my face if they hadn't..."
"What?" Walter asked. "What's going on?"
"I want answers..." Rachel said meekly.
Ana sighed. "...I'm sorry we didn't tell you before, but... your grandparents on my side are... well, dragons."
"Dragons?" Walter asked. Ana nodded. "But... but that's impossible!"
"That's what we've told you, to try and let you live as humans," Richard said.
"But your grandparents had other plans." Ana buried her face in her hands. "They wanted you two to be dragons, to let you experience being free of human worry or something ridiculous like that..."
"But... but why aren't YOU a dragon, Mom?" Rachel shouted.
"It skips a generation. Your grandparents, wanted to force you two into living with them for the rest of your lives, but your father and I managed to convince them not to."
"But now they've gotten senile and selfish... and threatened us into doing this to you." Richard hugged Walter gently. "I'm so sorry, kids.."
"But there is an upside. Because they threatened your lives, dragon law forbids them from ever trying take custody of you. While you're now dragons, you're still our beloved children." Ana hugged her daughter. "Please forgive us. We never wanted to do this to you, let alone against your will."
Walter sighed. "...I forgive you, Mom and Dad... thanks."
"But is there a way for us to go back to normal?" Rachel asked. She didn't like the thought of being a dragon for the rest of her life- everyone would think she was a monster, wouldn't they?
"Sadly, the only way is going to take a while to be ready," sighed Richard. "You can deal with being dragons for a while, I hope?"
"How long a while?" was Walter's suspicious, dread-filled reply.
"Several months. I'm sorry, kids, I really am."
"Just... Promise me one thing... Promise me you'll never abandon me or Walter, please," begged Rachel. Her tail drooped, and her eyes were dull with sorrow and regret.
"We promise." Ana ran a hand through Rachel's hair. "For now, try to get some sleep, you two. Okay?"
"Yes, Mom," the siblings chorused.
Ana escorted Rachel to her room, while Richard tucked Walter in. "Goodnight, Walter. Happy New Year," the father said.
"Goodnight, Dad. Happy New Year..." Richard turned off the light, and left.
As the two dragon kids struggled to fall asleep, the fear of being dragons for at least a few months gripped them. It was a new year: whether or not it would be a good year was the problem.
Neither Walter nor Rachel could sleep that night.
This is a commish for :iconmyseriousmystogan:.
:iconwolf-prince-leon: helped me out with this, and I cannot thank him enough for that, as I am notoriously averse to doing TFs with anything that has scales.
It kind of doesn't have a happy ending, but we all need one of those kind of stories once in a while.
And yes, Walter and Rachel have assholes for grandparents.
